Incoming government brief
The Department has received a number of Freedom of Information (FOI) requests for the Incoming Government Brief. Due to the high level of interest and the Government’s broader interest to increase transparency in an open government, the Department has decided to publish the brief provided to the Minister.
Briefs concerning the National Broadband Network and related matters were formally processed under the FOI Act and released with some redaction. Other briefs are released here as an administrative measure.
Some of the content in these briefs was deleted prior to publication, consistent with FOI exemptions, because that information is still under active consideration by Government, or because it concerns Cabinet deliberations or stakeholder negotiations, or for commercial or individual privacy reasons.
The Department has also received requests for the brief prepared in the event of a change of Government. However, as is consistent with the Department’s normal administrative practice, once the election outcome was clear the Department recalled all drafts prepared for alternative election outcomes, for secure destruction.
