This report outlines the operations and performance of the Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy for the financial year ending 30 June 2009. The report is prepared in accordance with the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet’s Requirements for Annual Reports, released in June 2009.

The voluntary Code of Practice for Sports News Reporting (Text, Photography and Data) was agreed on 30 March 2010. The Code of Practice outlines the rights and obligations of sporting and media organisations with regards to the provision of access to sporting venues, and the collection and reporting of sports news.

As part of its commitment to examine the introduction of ISP-level filtering, the Australian Government conducted a live in 2009 to provide valuable information on the effectiveness and efficiency of filters installed in 'real world' ISP networks.

Edith Cowan University - Review of existing Australian and international cyber safety research (PDF, 1.9 mb)
The Minister for Broadband, Communications and Digital Economy, the Honourable Stephen Conroy, released a review of cyber-safety research conducted for the Government by Edith Cowan University. The report, part of the Government’s Cyber-safety Plan, provides a useful basis for future research into cyber-safety issues.

- ABC and SBS - Strengthening our national broadcasters
On 12 May 2009, the Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Senator Stephen Conroy, released a policy response - Strengthening our National Broadcasters - highlighting the future funding and directions for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) and Special Broadcasting Service (SBS). This paper represents the Government’s response to the public consultation on the national broadcasters.
