Research, Statistics and Technology

The Research, Statistics and Technology Branch supports the development of policy and programs in communications, information technology, arts and sport, by providing economic, statistical, mapping, modelling and other research support. The Branch also provides support and advice for program evaluation. Most research is focused on internal departmental needs. Some research is also publicly available.

Branch work falls into four main streams –

  1. Economic research projects and advice
    Recent work includes digital television, Indigenous radio stations and telecommunications infrastructure in regional and rural areas.
  2. Mapping and economic modelling services
    Recent work includes broadband infrastructure mapping and coverage of arts touring programs.
  3. Statistics and surveys
    This includes responses to requests for statistical information relevant to the DCITA portfolio, and advice about survey design and methodology.
  4. Support for program evaluation
    This includes advice to program areas in undertaking evaluations.
