ABC and SBS Board Appointments

On 16 October 2008, the Australian Government announced a merit-based appointment process for non-executive directors to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) and Special Broadcasting Service (SBS) Boards.

The Australian Government called for applications from all Australians to fill four vacancies on the Boards of our national broadcasters, with the closing date of 7 November 2008 for nominations.

All applications received were assessed on merit by a Nomination Panel which was established at arms-length from Government. On 27 March 2009, four new non-executive directors were appointed two each to the ABC and SBS Boards. See the Minister's announcement of the appointments .

The next vacancy, for the Chair of the SBS Board, will occur in December 2009. Details regarding the appointment process to fill this and future vacancies will appear on this website and in the press.
