Competition policy and framework

This page provides information on regulation designed to promote competition in the telecommunications industry.

The Trade Practices Act includes a telecommunications specific competition regime covering access to telecommunications services and anti-competitive conduct in the telecommunications industry.

Other competition related aspects of the telecommunications regulatory regime are located in the Telecommunications Act, including carrier licensing and number portability.

The Department advises the Minister on policy aspects of telecommunications competition regulation.
