Numbering

The Department provides advice to the Minister on legislative and policy issues relating to telephone numbering in Australia. The Australian Communications and Media Authority, an independent regulatory body within the Communications portfolio, carries the responsibility for telephone number regulation in Australia.

Here you will find information on a range of numbering issues: the Telecommunications Numbering Plan 1997, the numbering charge, domain names, Integrated Public Number Database, number portability, the Numbering Advisory Committee and contemporary developments such as the introduction of Electronic Numbering and premium messaging service numbers.
