General Purpose Technologies and the Information Economy: an evolutionary approach to macroeconomic modelling (File size: 293Kb)
This paper builds a macroeconomic theory of General Purpose Technology (GPT) driven economic growth and then amends it sequentially to incorporate an increasing amount of behaviour that is consistent with the microeconomic evidence of evolutionary change. The paper illustrates the importance of information and communications technology (ICT) as a general purpose technology that is driving technological change.
