Broadband in Education: Availability, Initiatives and Issues

Purpose of the Paper

In March 2002, the Commonwealth Government established the Broadband Advisory Group (BAG) to provide high level advice on broadband development in Australia. At its initial meeting on 29 April 2002, the BAG agreed that the potential for economic benefit and enhanced service delivery from broadband is likely to be greatest in the health, education and small to medium enterprises (SMEs) sectors. The National Office for the Information Economy (NOIE) prepared this paper for the Advisory Group's meeting on 21 June 2002.
