The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) administers a co-regulatory scheme for Internet content. This scheme aims to address community concerns about offensive and illegal material on the Internet and, in particular, to protect children from exposure to material that is unsuitable for them.
The Broadcasting Services Act 1992 provides for ACMA to undertake community education and advisory activities in relation to the safe use of the Internet. This includes providing advice and assistance to families about the supervision and control of children's access to Internet content and conducting community education programs about Internet content and related issues.
Further information on the Internet safety activities of the ACMA can be found on its website.
