Telstra
Telstra, as the Universal Service Provider, provides equipment through its Disability Equipment Program. It is the primary source of rental equipment for people with a hearing or speech disability and is fully funded by Telstra. The rental charge is the same for that of standard, non-disability equipment.
The types of equipment that are available to allow people with disabilities to access a Standard Telephone Service include Teletypewriters (TTYs), modems, braille TTYs, volume control phones and voice-aid equipment. Telstra Teletypewriter (TTY) Payphones
Telstra's Teletypewriter (TTY) Payphones enable people who are deaf or have a communication impairment to stay in touch when out and about.
About 200 Telstra Payphones have now been modified to include a teletypewriter facility.

Optus
Optus has a Disability Equipment Program and supplies TTY machines to eligible customers in Optus cabled areas in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne.
