In the last few years, notwithstanding some excellent programs, there has been a marked decline in the quality of SBS television. In no small measure this can be attributed to highly irritating and more frequent interruptions caused by advertisements, whose quality is all the time becoming more and more insensitive; indeed, as with any commercial TV program, it can only be regarded as cheap and nasty.

For SBS to perform its important function in the digital age, far more opublic funding will be essential as will strict adherence to the existing SBS Charter which the current Board and Senior Management choose to ignore as it suits them.
