Do Not Call Register - Eligibility requirements for registration on the Do Not Call Register
The Do Not Call Register (the Register) was established in May 2007 and enables Australians to opt out of receiving unsolicited commercial marketing (telemarketing) calls by listing fixed line and mobile telephone numbers used primarily for private or domestic purposes.
In the 2009–10 Budget, the Government announced plans to widen the scope of the Register, to allow the registration of all telephone and fax numbers, including the numbers used by businesses and emergency service operators. On 26 November 2009 the Government introduced legislation to Parliament to make this change.
Discussion Paper - Closed
On 15 August 2008 the Department released a discussion paper seeking community views on whether the eligibility requirements of the Do Not Call Register should expand to allow the registration of all telephone and fax numbers. The discussion paper also aimed to test more modest approaches, such as allowing small businesses to register their telephone and fax numbers. Submissions to this discussion paper closed on 12 September 2008.
Public submissions made in response to the discussion paper are now available.
