Review of access to telecommunication services—multimedia files

On this page

The Australian Government is undertaking a review of the services available to help people in need of assistance to access and make the most of the telecommunication choices available to them, including the National Relay Service (NRS). The submission period closed on 2 September 2011 and the government is now considering the submissions received.

This page provides the document with the outline and terms of reference for the telecommunication access review in AUSLAN (as a streamed file) and in a series of audio files for download.

Please contact the department as below if you require the AUSLAN files on a DVD.

Other ways people were able to have a say

The department was keen to hear from people even if they did not wish to make a submission to the review. People with disability, older Australians and people experiencing illness (or a carer) were able to share their experiences with us, good and bad, to help us understand how services can be improved. This included those provided by the NRS, which we know is a highly valued service but which might still be improved.

They were asked to focus on the following questions:

  • when using the telephone, internet or mobile devices to communicate—what makes it easier or harder to do so?
  • when using the NRS—how might we improve this service for you?
