Project achievements
This project has provided high capacity broadband services to improve health care and emergency services available to people in remote and regional North Queensland communities. The project targeted remote communities that had immediate needs to improve intervention in the early treatment of emergency patients and medical and emergency services.
The project had five streams of activity including:
- Emergency coordination: provision of emergency telemedicine services for care of the acutely ill or injured in remote communities, supported by video and patient vital signs monitoring equipment.
- Online radiology imaging: provision of digital computed radiography capability to transmit medical images.
- Mobile breast screening: provision of digital imaging capability and broadband connectivity in a mobile breast screening van and ability to transmit images.
- Emergency communications systems: development of emergency mobile broadband communications and incident management anywhere in Queensland (transportable via vehicle and aircraft).
- Wireless community access: Bowen and Ingham have been provided with wireless broadband access through infrastructure at Queensland health facilities.
