Project achievements
This project supported the accelerated deployment of high-speed broadband infrastructure in the Noosa area and in particular Cooroy, which was identified as a key knowledge precinct under the Sunshine Coast Regional Knowledge Economy Strategy.
It is estimated, based on a Council of Mayors South East Queensland study, that the project will generate an additional $292.1 million for the local economy over a 10-year period.
The project deployed backhaul infrastructure, connecting to the fibre-optic trunks running along the Queensland Rail line at Cooroy, and tapped into multiple fibre backhaul carrier trunks to Brisbane.
Consortium partner Allegro Networks have deployed a network of WiMax base stations, providing a multi-megabit connectivity for the regions business and residential community. This wireless network has extended coverage beyond Cooroy to the whole of the Noosa area and the northern end of the Sunshine Coast.
