Project achievements
The Sunshine Coast Regional Council and partners supported the deployment of high-speed broadband infrastructure in the Maroochy and Caloundra City areas.
The project provided a regional environment in which technology-based innovative solutions can continue to flourish and expand through a technology and education precinct with strategic importance for gearing the regions economy at Sippy Downs.
These solutions are based on, or have migrated to, a competitive, open access network that significantly increases bandwidth capacity delivered via backhaul fibre optic infrastructure into the Council and City areas from the state government trunk network.
The project deployed backhaul infrastructure, connecting to the fibre optic trunks running along the Queensland Rail line at Landsborough Rail Station enabling the project to tap into multiple fibre backhaul carrier trunks to Brisbane.
Consortium partner Allegro Networks have deployed a network of WiMax base stations, extending coverage throughout Maroochy and Caloundra City areas and provide broadband access to some 33 000 local businesses.
