Chart 2 – Business use of internet, broadband and e-commerce - text version
This graph contrasts the strong growth in the adoption of internet and broadband by Australian businesses between 2002-03 and 2007-08 with relatively low growth in the take-up of e-Commerce tools (online ordering and web presence) by internet-using Australian businesses. Over this five-year period, the percentage of businesses using broadband increased very rapidly from 31% to 81%, while the percentage with internet access increased somewhat less rapidly to 87% from 71%. In contrast, of the firms with internet access, the proportion with a web presence grew slowly from 32% to 42%, while, over the same five-year period, the proportion using online ordering increased to only 27% from 19%.
