Graduate program
The Department’s graduate program is for Australian citizens who have completed an under-graduate degree within the past five years.
The program begins in January and runs for 11 consecutive months. Graduates who successfully complete the program will receive an offer of permanent employment with the Department.
Applications for the 2011 program have closed and offers have been made.
The program provides a unique insight into the complex issues affecting communications and the digital economy in Australia. As a graduate, your role could involve any of the following.
- Preparing submissions and briefings for the Minister.
- Providing policy advice on:
- nation-changing infrastructure projects such as the National Broadband Network
- the policies that shape and govern the broadcasting, telecommunications and internet industries in Australia
- advancing the national switchover from analog to digital television broadcasting that will occur progressively from 2010 to 2013
- the emerging and converging technologies and applications in the digital economy that are providing new benefits for Australians regardless of where they are.
- Providing program management and support to national and regional programs such as the:
- Indigenous Communications Plan
- Stay Smart Online website
- Satellite Phone Subsidy Scheme.
- Monitoring the effectiveness, impacts, and outputs of policies.
- Building relationships with industry, state governments, service providers and the community.
- Supporting the Department’s corporate functions such as:
- human resources
- financial management
- legal services
- property management
- information services
- communications and media.
