Project overview and objectives
The Health eTowns project will deliver improvements in health and education for predominantly Indigenous populations in 47 remote towns in the Northern Territory and six East Kimberley towns in Western Australia.
The project will work deliver specialist healthcare services to some of the more remote Indigenous communities. It will implement video, audio and data-sharing facilities to assist doctors and health professions with remote monitoring, consultation and treatment of patients.
It will deliver interactive online education and training programs that allow students and trainees to access mainstream education programs that are currently only available to students in larger cities.
A Telehealth Connection Service will be introduced to improve interconnectivity between multiple jurisdictions, leveraging the National Health Services Directory - in the first instance NT, WA and the NT Aboriginal Controlled Health Organisations.
Using high-speed broadband, Health eTowns will work to close the healthcare and education gap currently experienced by these predominantly remote Indigenous communities.
