Project overview and objectives
The project has established the Princess Alexandra Hospital Online Outreach Services Telehealth facility (PAH Online) to make specialist medical services available to patients, clinicians and health carers in regional and rural Queensland using digital and broadband technologies.
Clinicians based at regional medical centres are supported by Brisbane-based specialists to deliver patient care in the areas of cardiology, endocrinology, dermatology and geriatrics through the tele-clinic services delivered from the PAH Online telehealth centre. For example Specialists at Princess Alexandra (PA) hospital use videoconferencing facilities for inpatient ward rounds for geriatrics at Warwick.
The project is reducing the need for patients to travel long distances to receive specialist care; it is linking remote sites with PA hospital and facilitating the delivery of integrated health care to patients.
