The Government therefore announced on 7 April 2009 that greenfield estates across Australia should have fibre optic infrastructure to prepare them for the future.

On 23 December 2009, the Government released for public information the following documents:

The request for comments about the exposure draft Bill has closed.  The Government appreciates the comments it has received about the content of the Bill.  It is not intended that these comments be published.

The Government intends to introduce the final Bill during the Autumn 2010 Sittings.  A link to the final Bill will be provided when the Bill is introduced into Parliament.

The Bill represents the culmination of an extended period of stakeholder consultation, including the release of a consultation paper in May 2009, formation of the Fibre in Greenfields Stakeholder Reference Group in August 2009 and release of the exposure draft Bill in December 2009. The stakeholder consultation paper is provided below for reference..

Please send queries on the fibre in greenfields initiative to greenfields@dbcde.gov.au. However, we cannot provide advice to correspondents about what material to use during construction of a building.
