The ABC Funding Adequacy and Efficiency Review will assess how the ABC uses its funding and provide a sound basis for assessing future funding needs.
On 6 October 2005 the Minister for Communications, Information Technology and the Arts announced that KPMG Australia will be engaged to undertake the.review – see

KPMG Australia will work closely with the ABC, the Department of Communications, Information Technology and the Arts and the Department of Finance and Administration to complete the review.
The results of the review will be taken into account during the Government’s consideration of the 2006-07 Budget. Any additional resources identified as a result of this review will be available to the ABC to use towards meeting its Charter obligations.
The review will provide advice about the adequacy of the ABC’s current funding to undertake the functions specified in section 6 of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation Act 1983 (the ABC Charter), and the efficiency of the ABC’s use of this funding.
It will assess and provide advice on whether there are practicable cost efficiencies which would allow funding to be made available for priority ABC initiatives.

An invitation for public submissions to the review was published on 8 November 2005. Submissions were required to relate to the terms of reference outlined above.
The closing date for the receipt of submissions was COB AEST on Thursday 1 December 2005.
