The NSW Parliamentary Library Research Service has issued an E-Brief on Internet Censorship and Mandatory Filtering. Its authors Tom Edwards and Gareth Griffith survey the local and international position and conclude that mandatory ISP level filtering is not a feature of many of the countries it reviewed. In place, rather, are voluntary ISP filtering schemes designed to prevent accidental access to a defined list of illegal sites containing child pornography. |

The Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy has called for Expressions of Interest from ISPs interested in participating in a 'live' pilot to test a range of content filtering solutions in a real world environment, with the cooperation of ISPs (including mobile telephone operators) and their customers. |

Senior High Court Judge, Justice Michael Kirby was last night awarded the inaugural Australian Privacy Medal
in recognition of over 30 year's work in this area. a pioneer of the OECD
principles, chair of the ALRC which gave rise to the Australian privacy
legislation. He remains an inspiration to us all as we recommit to our
efforts in this area, IIA chief executive Peter Coroneos, said.
