Media Access Discussion Paper

The Department is undertaking an investigation into access to electronic media for the hearing and vision impaired that was begun by the former Department of Communications, Information Technology and the Arts in late 2007.

The Access to Electronic Media for the Hearing and Vision Impaired discussion paper identifies existing arrangements for access by people with a hearing and or vision impairment to electronic media, such as the availability of captioning and audio description for free-to-air television, subscription television and film, outlines arrangements in some overseas jurisdictions, and invites comments on a number of key issues.

The submission process closed on 13 June 2008. A large number of submissions have been received, and can be viewed in either PDF format or RTF format.

The Access to Electronic Media for the Hearing and Vision Impaired discussion paper is available in three printed formats—Adobe pdf, Rich Text Format (rtf) and HTML—and as audio files in the MP3 format.

If you require the Access to Electronic Media for the Hearing and Vision Impaired discussion paper in an alternative format please call 02 6271 1000.
