Digital TV assistance for Mildura households

The Australian Government’s Digital Switchover Taskforce today announced the successful contractor to install and demonstrate set-top boxes for eligible households getting ready for digital television switchover.

Hills Industries has been chosen to carry out in-home technical assistance for eligible households in the Sunraysia/Mildura region.

"For most people, getting ready for digital TV is a simple and inexpensive task," said Taskforce Executive Director, Andy Townend.

"However, the Government is aware that despite its best efforts, some people may require help to make the switch."

Hills Industries has been selected under the Government’s pilot Household Assistance Scheme for the Sunraysia/Mildura region, as it counts down to digital switchover on 30 June 2010.

Outcomes from the Sunraysia/Mildura pilot will inform strategies for national switchover.

"Eligible households in the Sunraysia/Mildura TV licence area will receive a letter inviting them to participate in the Household Assistance Scheme in January," Mr Townend said.

Households will be eligible for the Household Assistance Scheme where one or more residents are in receipt of the maximum rate of the:

  • Age Pension;
  • Disability Support Pension;
  • Carer Payment; or
  • Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) Service Pension or the DVA income-support supplement payment.

Under the Household Assistance Scheme, eligible households will receive:

  • supply, installation and demonstration of a high-definition set-top box, and
  • any necessary antenna and cabling work, if required.

The high-definition set-top box will be specifically chosen to ensure that it meets the needs of the elderly and people with a disability.

"Hills Industries is a diversified Australian company that has provided television reception equipment since the inception of television in Australia, and we are very proud to be a part of the Digital Switchover initiative," Hills Industries Group Managing Director, Graham Twartz said.
