Convergence Review Committee engages with social media
The Chair of the Convergence Review Committee, Glen Boreham, today launched online discussion pages to promote public engagement with the Convergence Review’s framing paper, which was released on 28 April 2011.
Covering topics such as Australian content, community standards, and media diversity, the online discussion will allow more people to have their say.
Mr Boreham said that these social media tools would help the committee take into account the views and expectations of the Australian public, which is a requirement in the review’s terms of reference.
"This interactive approach allows everyone to contribute to the review and tell us what they want from the media and communications environment," Mr Boreham said.
The discussion pages will complement the formal submission process for the framing paper, which outlines a number of principles that the committee feel could underpin any future policy framework. Both the discussion pages and the framing paper submissions are open until 10 June.
The pages are part of the committee’s broader approach to using social media tools to encourage discussion around the Convergence Review. The committee is using a Twitter account and a Facebook page in addition to the discussion pages.
The Twitter account and Facebook page will be used to continue the discussion and provide updates and other information for the life of the review.
"I encourage anyone with an interest in communications technology, the future of television, media production and distribution to get involved and tell us what you think," said Mr Boreham.
