Have a say on regional telecommunications issues - Toowoomba, Moree and Bourke consultations begin
The chair of the Regional Telecommunications Independent Review Committee, Ms Rosemary Sinclair, today called for public submissions for the 2011-12 review, and announced the first locations to kick-off the committee’s regional consultations.
”This is an exciting time for regional telecommunications and the committee encourages you to have your say,” Ms Sinclair said.
The committee’s issues paper sets out five key areas of interest for the 2011-12 Regional Telecommunications Review:
- Opportunities the emerging digital economy provides for regional Australians
- Improving regional health and education outcomes
- The communications needs of Indigenous people and communities
- Developments in the terrestrial and satellite mobile phone sector
- Consumer concerns of people and businesses in regional, rural and remote Australia.
The committee will hold public meetings in Toowoomba, Moree and Bourke on 19-20 September to discuss local telecommunications issues.
“The committee is keen to learn from the experiences of consumers, businesses and organisations about telecommunications services in regional, rural and remote Australia,” Ms Sinclair said.
‘These three public consultations are the first of many to be held across Australia as the committee reviews telecommunications services.”
The Toowoomba consultation will be held on Monday 19 September 2011 at the Central Plaza Hotel from 11am–1pm.
The Moree consultation will take place on Monday 19 September 2011 at the Max Function & Conference Centre from 4-6pm.
The committee’s meeting in Bourke will be held on Tuesday 20 September 2011 at the Bourke Bowling Club from 11am–1pm.
Following the regional consultations and public submission process, the committee will report their findings to the Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy in March 2012.
