National Broadband Network forum showcases opportunities for small business in Coffs Harbour

Capturing the potential of high speed broadband under the National Broadband Network (NBN) is the focus of a small business forum to be held in Coffs Harbour today.

The forum, hosted in partnership with the Mid North Coast NSW Business Chamber, the Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy and NBN Co, will discuss why the internet is increasingly important for business and the potential of high speed broadband.

As one of the first sites in the country to receive the NBN, Coffs Harbour is ideally placed to take advantage of the unrealised opportunities made possible by high speed broadband.

Discussion on the day will focus on how the NBN can benefit Coffs Harbour businesses in tourism, retail and other sectors, as well as by improving education.

Forum participants will also hear insights from a national broadband champion on the many benefits the NBN will bring to all Australians, as well as an update from NBN Co—the company established by the Australian Government to roll out the NBN—on where the project is at and a timetable for its rollout in and around the North Coast of New South Wales.

Broadband champion Dave Abrahams, aka Digital Dave, regional small businessman and media commentator, urged business to get involved to learn how business can act now to prepare for the NBN.

"The NBN will change the way we work. There are some incredible reasons to embrace the NBN-enabled digital economy, ranging from reduced inventory and distribution costs, expanded opening hours, to more flexible working conditions," Mr Abrahams said.

"There is great potential under increased teleworking for example that can reduce your office space and energy costs, your commuting times, as well as increasing worker flexibility and boosting your staff’s productivity."
