NBN benefits for small business on show at Townsville forum
The benefits of establishing an effective online presence under the National Broadband Network (NBN) was under the spotlight today at a small business forum in Townsville.
The forum, hosted in partnership with the Queensland Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation, NBN Co, the Townsville ICT Business Network, and the Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, gave small businesses the chance to see presentations on how high-speed broadband under the NBN can help improve local businesses.
As one of the first sites in Australia to receive the NBN, Townsville is in an ideal position to take advantage of new high-speed broadband opportunities.
National broadband champion and CEO of Autech Software and Design, Darren Alexander, spoke at the forum and said the NBN is a critical piece of infrastructure.
"I’m a small business owner, and I understand the benefits of being connected—to consumers and competitors, locally, nationally and internationally,” Mr Alexander said.
"The NBN will not only give small to medium operators the right tools to work and compete in the 21st century, but will give them a decisive advantage.
"We should understand that the benefits of high-speed broadband will be far-ranging. Technology is rapidly changing how we do business: how we trade, communicate, learn and care for each other,” he said.
Small business owners also received an update from NBN Co on the national rollout, and government and business contacts were on hand to answer any business-related questions from attendees.
