NBN rollout to benefit Victorian homes and businesses

NBN champion and Executive Chairman of Aegis Media Pacific, Harold Mitchell, has today welcomed the release of NBN Co’s first national 12-month fibre rollout schedule for the National Broadband Network (NBN).

The schedule includes Victorian sites in Melbourne City, where Mr Mitchell is based, as well as in Ballarat Central, Bacchus Marsh, Brunswick, Melton, South Morang and Tullamarine.

“The high-speed broadband delivered by the NBN will allow Australian businesses to better compete with the rest of the world,” Mr Mitchell said.

“It will mean small- and medium-sized businesses will be able to become big businesses. It will enable them to access domestic and global markets from wherever they are located. The way to run a small business is to run it like a big business, and the NBN will allow them to do that.”

More than half a million premises across 56 Australian towns and suburbs are set to gain access to NBN fibre services under NBN Co’s first one-year construction schedule. This includes more than 61,000 premises in Victorian communities.

“The new generation of consumers are very impatient,” Mr Mitchell said. “High-speed broadband enables business to respond to consumers with lightning fast. It is going to make all the difference to business in this country. Any business that wants to be successful must have access to high-speed broadband and they must know what to do with it.”

Mr Mitchell said any business that failed to develop an online presence would be unable to keep up with competitors.

“Without the NBN they will be left behind: the NBN will let them be what they want to be. It will mean they can be as good as any business in New York, Paris or London.
“The NBN puts Australia at the centre of the world.”
