Townend moves on

Andy Townend, head of the Digital Switchover Taskforce at the Department of Broadband Communications and the Digital Economy, will leave his position and return with his young family to Europe in early 2011.

Andy has been head of the Taskforce and led the switchover process since its inception in 2007. He has overseen the successful implementation of switchover across Mildura/Sunraysia, regional South Australia and Broken Hill and now underway in regional Victoria.

Andy will take up a new role with the BBC World Service Trust. He will lead the project to deliver a European Union contract to ensure a smooth transition from analog to digital in Serbia.

Nerida O’Loughlin from ACMA will be joining the department to lead the Switchover Taskforce for three to six months while a permanent replacement is found.

The department thanks Andy for his exceptional efforts in setting up and implementing the switchover process, and hopes to work with him again in the future.
